Long baths are an essential part of my nighttime routine. This evening ritual is the perfect way to release the energy of the day and ground myself for restorative sleep. I generally add epsom salts & lavender, both known for calming the central nervous system, relaxing muscles, and soothing stiff joints. Today, Marika Jewell of the Organic product line, Oh Deer, shares her simple diy botanical bath blend to enhance this sacred act of self-love. An easy way to turn bath time into a deeply nourishing experience. Enjoy!
M | Coming home to my connection with water was unwavering in its truth. The capacity for which water heals us is immeasurable. The benefits you receive from immersing your body in a warm or hot tub of water is by far one of the truest forms of healing I have experienced. It has a way of cleansing you from the inside out, energetically healing wounds and releasing physical tensions we may gather and carry with us through-out our day. Creating space for the ritual of bath has saved me and I believe it can do the same for you. A source of power I turn to when Im feeling low, needing balance or simply want to relax and have moments with myself. To give gratitude, to quiet the mind and body - long enough to slow down while living in a world that thrives on “busy”.
It is here answers may arise, clarity is invited into the well of your heart and balance is restored.
Many people are deficient in magnesium and this is a direct way to absorb minerals into the body. Our skin is our largest organ and it is our honour to nourish it. Epsom salts fill your skin with vitamins and minerals, essential oils may be added to invoke a feeling, mood, or help stimulate/heal us medicinally. Clays are incredibly helpful in pulling toxins from the body. Practicing this regularly will bring balance to your being, relax sore or tired muscles, leaving you feeling revitalized.
Infusion/Recipe: Epsom Salts, Bentonite Clay, Rose Petal, Lavender, 1 Essential Oils (optional)
Process: In a bowl or mason jar, add 1 cup epsom salts, 1/4 cup bentonite clay, rose petals, lavender (add botanicals as desired). Mix well to ensure clay is blended in with the epsom salts, this allows the clay to fully absorb in the water. You may add a few drops of your favourite essential oils. Pour entire mixture into bath water.
My name is Marika Jewell, the creator behind OH DEER. All products are sustainable, made in small-batches with the purest intentions and profound gratitude. Having come to worship the ritual of bath and its ability to balance and heal us energetically this has become a big part of my self care and it is here I started to share my creations with others. Practicing herbalism and aromatherapy, choosing specific ingredients that are grown organically with immense healing properties is of great value. Sourcing many of these ingredients within Canada is important to keep it local and support my community.
With a deep curiosity of plants it was a natural progression to be where I am today. I feel most at home when I am exploring new ingredients, creating recipes and making concoctions in my kitchen and my small but inspiring workspace. With dreams of one day living in a cabin in the woods where growth can truly flourish, not only feeding our minds and bodies but our souls too. Currently studying Herbalism I apply what I learn to create healthier and more intentional products for myself, my family and for you. It is a blessing too be of service during this incredible time here on the planet.
